Install Wordpress On Linux VPS Server

In today's article we will read and learn how to install and set up the wordpress on the linux server.

First, let's talk about Wordpress.

What is Wordpress?

Wordpress is a free and open source content management system written in PHP and paired with the MySQL. The wordpress was originally developed for the blog publishing, but gradually it is used for many web content websites, forums, LMS system, Online shops and many more.

Prequesties to install the Wordpress

We need the following configuration on the server before installing the Wordpress.

  • User with sudo privilages
  • LAMP(Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP) Setup on the server.

Steps to Install Wordpress

Step:1 Create a MySQL database and user for wordpress

To get started, log into the MySQL root accout by using this command:

mysql -u root -p

You will be prompted for the password for the root account which you have choose during the MySQL installation.

Create the database for wordpress which will be used to control and manage the wordpress data. Use below command to create database.

mysql > CREATE DATABASE raiseup DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci;

Now, after creating the database we will create the user and grant the access to database created in previous step.

mysql > GRANT ALL ON raiseup.* TO 'raiseupuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';

We have created a user having name raiseupuser and database raiseup. Now flush the privileges to save the changes made in MySQL and exit form the MySQL using below Command.

mysql > FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

mysql > Exit;
